Training

Pre-MRANZCOG

The Queensland Centre for Gynaecological Cancer provides training for pre-membership candidates working towards their diploma in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG). Gynaecological Cancer is a compulsory core component of this training.

Registrars spend 3 months in the Centre where they will be integrally involved with the day-to-day management of gynaecological cancer patients.

Clinical Fellowships in Gynaecologic Oncology.

The Centre currently has two RANZCOG accredited training positions in Gynaecologic Oncology. Currently, one of these positions is funded by Queensland Health and is usually filled by an Australian trainee proceeding towards his/her certification in Gynaecologic Oncology (CGO) Diploma.

The second fellowship position is currently unfunded and to date has been filled by overseas candidates who are either self-funded or funded by their home hospital or health service. This position is accredited towards the Diploma in Gynaecologic Oncology (DGO) with the RANZCOG. To date, the Centre has had trainees from the UK, South-East Asia and Europe.

Student Electives

The Centre welcomes overseas students who wish to spend a period of time in a large Gynaecologic Oncology service. In the past, students have attended from Europe, Asia and the US. Hospital accommodation is available at a very reasonable cost and students are encouraged to participate in the daily functioning of the Centre including attendance at ward-work, out-patient clinics and operating theatre.

Brisbane's pleasant climate, proximity to numerous tourist destinations and the Centre's sub-centre services around the state can provide students with a unique opportunity to combine study with sight-seeing.
