Gynaecological Cancer Society - In
Profile
The Gynaecological Cancer Society was established in 1997 with the aim of providing practical
information, education, financial and
health care assistance to gynaecological cancer patients, their carers,
healthcare professionals and other stakeholders with an interest in the
field of gynaecological oncology.
The Society's membership comprises specialist doctors, nursers,
physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers and other
healthcare professionals experienced in the treatment and care of
gynaecological cancer patients and their carers.
A further balance of membership is achieved by including professional
business men and women with a personal interest in gynaecological
oncology. Their main task is to develop profit-generating business
activities for the Society. These profits are used to cover the
Society's operating costs and allow 100 cents in every dollar donated to
be used for its intended charitable purpose.
Geographically, the society is based in Brisbane,
the capital city of the state of Queensland
- a large, north-eastern coastal State of Australia
perhaps best known for its temperate climate, easy life style and
wonderful beaches.
The Society is registered under State law as an incorporated
association and public charity; and under Federal law as a public
benevolent institution. Whilst imposing strict legal, accounting and
reporting requirements upon the Society, these laws also allow the
Society some useful taxation concessions.
As a result, the Society is able to offer income tax deductibility
for donations of cash or in-kind product. Under Federal Law, two main
conditions apply; each gift must exceed A$2.00 in value; and
deductibility is limited to personal or corporate income taxable within
Australia.
